After months of research, planning, and development, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has launched a new website.

The Health Unit last updated the website in 2006. This new website has been re-organized with new and renamed sections which they say  improve the visitor experience.

Some of the key features include a responsive design, whereby the site displays content optimally based on the screen size, whether it is a computer, tablet, smart phone, or other device.  A new information architecture that makes public health information easier to find, optimizing navigation.  Local public health reports and statistics in the new Reports section of the site.

The pages are built to meet the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act requirements, as it relates to new websites.

Another change in the Health Unit’s online presence is the web address. Moving forward, the Health Unit will now be using www.wechu.org. Visitors can still use the previous address www.wechealthunit.org and will be redirected to www.wechu.org.

The website features more than 1,100 individual pages aimed at families, youth, parents, and professionals in our community. Built to provide local, current, and relevant public health information, the site is structured to provide quick and direct access to information for all audiences. Wechu.org will evolve over time, as the Health Unit continues to respond to the changing information needs and requests of our community.

Associate Medical Officer of Health and CEO Dr. Gary Kirk says, “This new website is a reinvention of the Health Unit’s online presence. It represents months of collaborative work within the organization to provide pertinent public health information to our area residents. We are pleased with the final results and look forward to better serving our community online.”
