The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup will be holding their 4th Annual Detroit River Evening this Wednesday at the Waterfront Hotel.  This is a free, public event meant to build awareness of and bring attention to the coordinated efforts to improve the Detroit River.

“This year we’ve been able to celebrate some exciting steps in the remediation of the river,” said Claire Sanders of the Detroit River Canadian Cleanup. “As we look toward delisting the Detroit River as an Area of Concern, it is an important time to look back and see just how far we’ve come and what steps still need to be taken toward a healthier Detroit River ecosystem for all of us.”

Keynote speaker Gord Miller, the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, will talk about the Impact of Climate Change for Ontario.  Miller was first sworn in as the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario on January 31, 2000, to oversee the continued implementation of the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR). As an independent officer appointed by the Legislative Assembly, Commissioner Miller oversees 13 ministries.

The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup implements the Remedial Action Plan on behalf of a community-based partnership between the government (federal, provincial, municipal), local industries, researchers, environmental organizations and citizens working together to protect, restore and enhance the Detroit River ecosystem. Everyone is welcome to come and learn more about what the DRCC partnership is doing for the Detroit River and its watershed.

The evening kicks off with a Meet-and-Greet at 6:30pm,  with the Annual Project Review at 7pm followed by the keynote speaker at 8pm.

Space is limited and registration is required.  You can do so online at  https://2014detroitriverevening.eventbrite.ca or by calling Claire Sanders, Remedial Action Plan Coordinator at 519-982-3722 (DRCC) or 519-776-5209 x356 or by email at [email protected].
