The Christian Orthodox Church of St. Dimitrije is hosting a garage sale to raise money for victims that were affected by the recent floods in Serbia and Republic of Serbia which is located in Bosnia.
During the week of May 18th, members of the church have been collecting donations for the garage sale. All items being sold have been donated by the Serbian community and members of the St. Dimitrije Church and all proceeds will go directly to flood victims.
Serbia and Bosnia have been hit with heavy rainfalls that have resulted in the Sava River overflowing and destroying communities. This has been the heaviest rainfall in the Balkans in over 120 years where three months’ worth of rain has fallen in just three days. Bosnian authorities have confirmed that over 500,000 people were evacuated and at least 25,000 others have also been evacuated in Serbia.
As a result of this these floods people were left without their homes, food, water and any belongings.
“The whole Serbian community in Windsor is in mourning over the catastrophe that has hit our homeland. Almost half of the places where Serbians reside (Serbia and Bosnia) are completely flooded. We are all following the situation down there and are praying to God to help our brothers and sisters in this difficult time.” said St. Dimitrije Priest Jovica Cetkovic.
The church is located at 2690 Seminole Street. The sale takes place Sunday from 8am to 8pm.
