A search for a person in distress in LaSalle has turned out to be hoax.

Police in LaSalle say that on Tuesday April 29th at 11:58 pm, they were called to the area of Morton Drive just west of Malden for a 911 call with no voice contact. LaSalle Police received a total of 42 calls from the number.

Officers on foot, on ATV and on bike conducted a search of the area, including neighbourhood homes. With no success, police called in the RCMP search and rescue plane.

In an email to LaSalle Police staff Deputy Chief of Police Dan Fantetti said “Though it turned out to be a hoax, it is very rewarding to everyone involved police, fire, and civilian to know that we never gave up, we exhausted all avenues, and continued to work together for almost 24 hours as a team in order to confirm that that there was no victim in distress.”
