The tenants of an apartment where a body was found have been ticketed for disabling and not maintaining smoke alarms according to Windsor Fire and Rescue.
Police opened an investigation after the body was found Monday at 1098 California Avenue.
Police say firefighters discovered the body after having been called to check on the well being of the resident.
Investigators have determined that the apartment caught fire overnight Sunday into Monday but the blaze extinguished itself.
Windsor Police Sergeant Matthew D’Asti said Monday that foul play was not suspected.
The fire caused $60,000 in damage. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on the victim Tuesday.
