UPDATED (9:28pm): Caesars Windsor Manager of PR and Communications Jhoan Baluyot has confirmed that the casino has been closed for a “planned shutdown” and will “remain closed until a contract agreement is reached”.

Story:

With a looming midnight strike deadline for Unifor Local 444 employees, Caesars Windsor has closed its doors and has turned away customers looking to enter the building as of 8pm Thursday according to casino security personnel and public relation officials.

A security officer near the Seven Stars parking garage entrance said no new patrons would be allowed inside the building and a phone call to security revealed that the doors to the casino were “already closed” and that no new customers would be allowed in.

At the general entrance to the casino’s parking garage, a security guard told windsoriteDOTca “we are not on strike, but we are not allowing new patrons into the building at this time.” Pylons were placed across the entrance and personnel turned away several vehicles hoping to enter the parking structure.

Security told windsoriteDOTca that a decision had not yet been made as to if patrons currently in the building would be asked to leave.

Manager of PR and Communications Jhoan Baluyot said in a both a phone call and a written statement that negotiations were continuing in advance of the 12:01am strike deadline.

The deadline for a strike is 12:01am Friday. Negotiations are continuing.
