Blowing snow, falling snow, near white-out conditions and plenty of the white stuff on area roads made for a slow and congested morning commute for many Windsorites today.

Commuters headed westbound on Riverside Drive and Wyandotte were met with delays as traffic was bumper to bumper while northbound drivers on Ojbway, Dougall and Dominion faced much of the same.

The city’s snow plows were out all night and continued to remove snow from main roads during the morning commute.

County Road 8 in Essex was briefly closed after OPP said abandoned vehicles littered the road and dangerous conditions made the road too risky to drive down.

Windsor Police responded to 8 minor accidents and 11 stranded motorists.

Snow continues to fall and an additional 5cm are expected before it tapers off this afternoon.
