Cirque du Soleil kicked off its first of seven performances Thursday.
Varekai tells the tale of a world by the same name, deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano where “something else is possible.”
Varekai features stunning displays of skill and power set against innovative music and otherworldly sets, interwoven with vivid choreography that speaks to all in the universal language of movement.
Varekai features over 130 costumes that took 33,000 hours to make, is set with 300 “trees” between 4.5m and 10.5m tall, features five stage trap doors, two turntables and an elevating platform for special effects, and takes around 162 total team members to perform.
