Registration is now open for the region’s first multi-sport adventure race taking place June 21st.
“If you really want to set a great new year’s goal, you should take advantage of our early-bird discount and register for and commit to The SCAR – South Coast Adventure Race,” says ERCA’s Danielle Stuebing and one of the race organizers. “The 70 kilometre course will take you through beautiful conservation areas, along rural roads and down gorgeous creeks during this 5 – 8 hour race course.”
ERCA and the Rotary Club of Windsor St. Clair will jointly host the event, which will start and finish at Holiday Beach Conservation Area in Amherstburg.
The race will include cycling, paddling, trekking, orienteering, and obstacles.
Teams of two or three participants can complete in all male, all female or co-ed categories. Organizers also planned a youth category for teams aged 13 to 17.
“You’ll need to train for the race, but anyone in good physical condition, who can cycle at least 20km, should be able to complete this course,” Stuebing adds. “And of course, your safety is our top priority, so we will have sweep vehicles and safety personnel monitoring our participants.”
Early bird rates range from $75 – 100 per team member, and include all race support, canoe rentals, safety equipment, a t-shirt, a finishers’ memento, a post-race bash and awards ceremony.
Organizers say discounted rates are available only until the end of February.
Funds raised will be used to enhance visitor services at local Conservation Areas and to implement local and worldwide community service projects.
