Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising of heavy snow through the end of Saturday.

They say a disturbance from the Southern Plains States is forecast to track northeast towards the Great Lakes. Indications suggest that the low will follow a path across to Central New York State by Sunday morning, with Windsor-Essex right in its path.

Snow ahead of the disturbance is expected to reach Southwestern Ontario tonight then spread northeast into South Central Ontario Saturday morning and Eastern Ontario by Saturday evening.

Environment Canada expects a total of 10 to 15cm snowfall possible for Southwestern and South Central Ontario by Saturday night and Eastern Ontario by Sunday morning.

Strong and gusty easterly winds are also expected.

Motorists should be prepared for poor winter driving conditions after the snow arrives by Saturday.
