A local business is giving back to the community and awarding three people with the gift of hearing.
Mike Desjardins is the grand prize winner of a hearing aid package from The Hearing Wellness Centre in Tecumseh.
Doctor of Audiology Lisa Macari opened her practice in 2006 and along with her staff decided to host a Gift it Forward contest after having years of success.
In November Macari said “we’re inviting people to nominate someone in their lives – a friend, a family member, a neighbour or a colleague – who struggles with hearing loss, but is unable to afford hearing aids.”
As the Grand Prize winner, Desjardins will receive a hearing aid package valued at $5000, including assessment, fitting, hearing aids and three years of post-fitting service.
Macari says they received 37 entries and “it was so very difficult to choose a winner – there were so many amazing stories.”
Based on the demand created by the contest, The Hearing Wellness Centre decided to award two extra prizes.
“It was just too hard to choose,” says Macari, “so we all decided that the only way to really share our blessings was to make sure that two more people will enjoy the gift of better hearing.”
The Hearing Wellness Centre is located at 13278 Tecumseh Road East in the Tecumseh Medical Centre.
