A group of local philanthropic residents are joining forces this holiday season to make Christmas dreams come true from Leamington to Windsor and from Amherstburg to Puce, everywhere in Essex County. The group known as the Secret Santa’s are already seeing an increase in the need for holiday spirit this year.

The Secret Santa Campaign first began with a group of hard-working ladies that wanted to do something nice for someone else. They knew that hard work doesn’t always make life easy especially during the holiday season.

Their goal is to help families that may not necessarily qualify for programs or support offered by other community organizations. The families that are targeted are working or going to school, but just don’t make enough to buy extra presents at this time of year.

The Secret Santa’s say that if buying a few presents during the holidays will in fact make a family get behind on bills like hydro and rent, then the group of Secret Santa’s wants to try and help.

“This project really has become a team effort, we need people to nominate families and we need people to support us by buying gift certificates or age appropriate gifts for our selected families” says Anna one of the Secret Santa’s. “We are encouraging the community to join our Page on Facebook which helped us reach out to the community.

Secret Santa Melissa who started the campaign five years ago and has been inspired by the generosity of people in Windsor and Essex County ever since. “Last year we helped 6 families including a family with three autistic children. Although dad had a job it was more than difficult for them to make ends meet let alone have a nice Christmas, all three children were in diapers. A Secret Santa delivered the gifts on Christmas Eve, and the family was in tears.”

All people have to do is fill in a quick application which can be emailed to you by request and tell the Secret Santa’s about a family that is trying really hard, but has run into a few bumps in the road. Families that are nominated must personally know the nominator, and the family head (mom/dad/guardian) must be aware of the nomination.

To become a Secret Santa or to nominate a family please contact Secret Santa at [email protected] by December 7th.
