This weekend, the largest video gaming event in the city takes place at the University of Windsor.
The event, called “LAN of the Dead”, will see hundreds of video game enthusiasts participate in various tournaments and social gaming over the course of the weekend. Some will even spend the full weekend gaming as the event will be held throughout the night allowing for a continuous 32 hours of play time.
The event will cater to a new generation of gamers and a growing community called eSports. Organizers say that the days of the stereotypical gamer sitting at home alone on his computer are gone. More and more gamers are turning to events such as these to enjoy a social gaming experience. LAN parties also offer tournaments for the competitors within the gaming community which give them the chance to earn prizes sponsored by top computer and tech companies including Roccat and Riot.
Organizers say the University of Windsor stands to benefit from the event because it can be seen as a great recruitment tool. T he Social Science Society is sponsoring the event.
The numbers from the last event in October neared 200 people. It will be held in the Ambassador Auditorium located within the CAW Student Centre.
