Construction is well underway at the new location of Windsor’s naval armed forces facility.
To be used by armed forces personnel and cadet corps, the nearly 20,000 square foot facility will replace the current home of the HMCS Hunter on Ouellette (near Erie Street) and will accommodate the HMCS Hunter Naval Reserve and up to three cadet corps.
The facility will support 250 personnel and will include a main building with a drill deck, classrooms, offices, messes, storage, a boat lift and a boat shed.
Construction started last year on the $36.4 million project which is part of the federal government’s Economic Action Plan.
The decision was made to declare the old site surplus once the new location opens as the original building required major structural, mechanical and electrical upgrades.
The new facility, currently under construction, is located at the end of Mill Street (at Russell Street) at the Mill Cove Marina site.
