Windsor’s own beauty pageant, the Miss Windsor Pageant is back for the first time in eight years, this weekend.
The pageant, which takes place Saturday evening, features local girls aged 13 to 26 — divided into teen and young adult groups.
“With the addition of Miss Teen Windsor for the first time, and the absence of the Miss Windsor Pageant for many years, we are excited to bring back this great community event,” says contestant manager Cynthia Loewen.
This past weekend, contestants participated in simulated ‘job interviews’ with four judges. Organizers say the experience was designed to prepare them for the job search and interview process in the working world.
Contestants were also asked to choose a charity of choice and raise funds.
Event Director Maurizio Tiberia says the girls surpassed a minimum goal of $100 each and raised over $5000. “As a fundraiser in our community, I felt this portion of the Pageant was one that was important.”
“We have one contestant that has raised over $1000 plus donated 1000 homemade pierogies to her charity of choice.”
“Another contestant that collected over 1000 food items in addition to cash for a local food bank.”
Tickets to see Miss Windsor this Saturday, November 23rd, are available online at http://misswindsor.eventbrite.ca for $15 + fees or are available for $20 at the door.
Doors open at 6pm and the pageant begins at 7.
