Striking CUPE Local 1393 workers at the University of Windsor are hosting an ‘un-cancelled’ campus community barbecue this Thursday. The barbecue was originally planned as part of the University of Windsor’s 50th Anniversary weekend, but was postponed when the strike began.
“One of the most disappointing things for us when the strike began was to learn that university administration had cancelled the campus community barbecue scheduled for this Thursday,” said Dean Roy, President of CUPE 1393.
“That’s why we felt it was important not to ignore our amazing campus community of students, faculty, support staff and the surrounding neighbourhood, so we’ve decided to ‘un-cancel’ the barbecue and host it with a little help from our friends,” he added.
The barbecue will take place between 12 noon and 1:30pm in front of Kerr House, home of the Windsor University Faculty Association, located at 366 Sunset Avenue.
Free hot dogs, chips and pop will be served while supplies last.
A number of organizations, both off and on campus, have either sponsored, or are supporting the event, including CUPE National, CUPE Ontario, Windsor and District Labour Council, University of Windsor Students’ Alliance (UWSA), Organization of Part-Time University Students (OPUS), Graduate Student Society and Windsor University Faculty Association.
