Fences are up and the former Edward Street Neighbourhood Centre in Riverside will soon be demolished.

The old school, former community and seniors centre, will be demolished in the coming weeks and the property will be divided up into fourteen lots for houses.

The property is located at 1150 Edward Street and demolition will include asbestos abatement, disconnection of utilities and water service, demolition of the building and removal of its footings, removal of materials, removal of existing asphalt and concrete pads, as well as fence, walkways and some landscaping. The site will be cleaned and backfilled with clay material and the surface will be graded.

The Edward Street Neighbourhood Centre in Riverside closed when the WFCU Centre opened and has sat idle, as a surplus City of Windsor property since 2008.
