A large iron cross on the front of Hotel-Dieu Hospital was removed early this morning amid safety concerns as the hospital transitions from ‘faith based’ to secular.
Hotel-Dieu’s Steve Erwin says the decision was made to take the cross down early due to heavy deterioration. “It was a safety concern near a main entrance for patients and visitors.”
The cross removal was originally scheduled to take place during a ceremony held this morning at 11am.
The building is transitioning from ‘faith based’ to secular as the Hospital moves to the Tayfour campus, and Windsor regional Hospital assumes the Ouellette Avenue site.
Hotel-Dieu’s Chapel will be decommissioned on Monday September 30th. Bishop Ronald Fabbro will celebrate the last Mass and decommission the Chapel at that time.
Windsor Regional officially takes over Hotel Dieu site on October 1st.
