Ottawa Street favourite Sweet T’s Soul Cookin’ will be closing it’s doors this month.

The owners of the fried chicken and waffle house said in an email today:

Though the restaurant will be closing on June 16th, 2013, we will be back. No, not as a fried chicken and soul cookin’ joint, but we will be operating a new family restaurant from the space at 1515 Ottawa Street.

As with any major decision, this one didn’t come easily…but after a lot of consideration, we’ve determined that it’s the proper thing for us to do.

We’ll be spending the summer refining a new concept that we hope everyone can sink their teeth into.

Don’t worry, we’ll still supply an array of some very tasty guilty pleasures, but we’ll also strive to craft some alternatives that serve to satiate the growing restrictions that so many people have regarding what they can eat. It’s a delicate balance, but we’re going to do our best to hit it out of the park for everyone.

Over the next two weeks…

We want everyone to have a fair chance at a final visit.
Though for some it may seem inconvenient, we need to cease taking reservations in preparation for these last two weeks. We’ll operate on a first come, first served basis to help ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to have a visit, and to avoid folks waiting at the door while reserved tables sit empty. We don’t necessarily know what will happen, or if a “wait” will even exist over these last days, but we just want to be fair to everyone.

Certainly, gift cards will be honoured until June 15, 2013, but we will honour them once again when we reopen under a new name in the fall of this year. Please understand that Sweet T’s gift cards will NOT be redeemable at Smoke & Spice, as that restaurant is a completely separate corporation.

Thank you for all your support, and we look forward to seeing you all soon as we count down, and once again for the new launch in the fall.
