Injury Prevention Coalition Launches Road Safety Challenge

The Windsor-Essex County Injury Prevention Coalition present the 17th annual Road Safety Challenge in Windsor-Essex.
The Challenge is aimed at raising awareness of road safety issues at the local level through special activities to help reduce collision related deaths and injuries.
The events include the Drive Only Never Text program for teens, Rediscover Your Bike events, bus ads promoting proper helmet fitting and much more. Activities will be offered both in the City and County.
Here is a look at the events that will take place:
Distracted Driving – Drive Only Never Text (D.O.N.T.)
May 22nd at F.J. Brennan Catholic High School
The aim of this interactive event is to educate the students of Brennan High School on
distracted driving, focusing on driving and texting. The goal of Drive Only Never Text
(D.O.N.T.) is to spread awareness of the dangers of texting while driving as well as its
legislation.
Road Safety Launch
May 27th @ 10:45 am at the Sherk Centre Leamington
Bus ads promoting proper bike helmet fitting will be highlighted in Leamington at the Sherk
Centre. General bike and road safety messages will be promoted along the way.
Rediscover Your Bike
June 1st from 9 am to 11 am – Salvation Army, Leamington
June 1st from 11 am to 2 pm – Wesley United Church, Amherstburg
June 15th from 12 pm to 2 pm – Cottam Ridgeview Park, Cottam
June 22nd from 9 am to 11 am – Remington Park, Windsor
The 4th annual “Rediscover Your Bike” event once again provides our community in Windsor
and Essex County with helmet fitting, bike safety checks, bike rodeo, guided trail rides, and
lots of giveaways.
Car Seat Inspection Clinic
June 22nd from 10am to 2pm at Formula One Collision located at 9420 Tecumseh Road East
Safe Seats Save Children is a group of trained car seat technicians that volunteer their time to
educate parents on the proper installation and regulations of children’s car seats. The clinics
are free of charge and no appointment is necessary. Please remember only seats purchased
in Canada can be installed.
