The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association has launched a program to fill vacancies in the core by offering subsidies to businesses.

Launched today, the Commercial Rent Subsidy Program will encourage up to eight businesses annually to fill previously unoccupied buildings with new commercial ventures.

The DWBIA will subsidize up to 50% of the successful applicant’s rent each month for the period of one year up to a maximum of $625 per month.

“The goal of the program is to stimulate and enhance economic development and introduce new diversified services within the DWBIA’s boundaries,” says DWBIA Chair Larry Horwitz.

Eligible businesses include bakeries, grocers, speciality food stores, delis, butcher shops, hardware/home improvement stores, regional wine stores, pet supply stores, pet boutiques, art or music stationery or supply stores, shoe stores, handbag/accessories stores, cosmetics, body care, fragrence, beauty supply stores, apparel stores, indie movie theatres, home decor stores, vintage/antique stores, toy/educational stores, boutique gym stores, bicycle shops and bookstores.

For more information, visit the DWBIA’s website.
