The Airports Capital Assistance Program will be funding $827,738  for three safety improvement projects at the Windsor International Airport.

The money will allow for the purchase of an airport rescue and firefighting truck, as well as the replacement of electronic runway condition reporting equipment and a snow plow blade.

The new state-of-the-art firefighting truck will greatly enhance emergency response capability at the airport, while the other equipment will provide for continued clear and safe runways and taxiways for travellers.

“We are grateful to the federal government and Transport Canada for their continued support of the Airports Capital Assistance Program and Windsor International Airport,” said Eddie Francis, Mayor of Windsor. “These funds are essential to supporting our operations and ensure greater and safe service.”

To date, through the Airports Capital Assistance Program, the Windsor International Airport has received more than $5.7 million for 11 projects, including today’s announcement.
