The City of Windsor has released statistics on 311 complaints, concerns and requests from January to March and calls to help with disconnection of household downspots have taken the top spot.
The City says over 700 calls for “downspout disconnection” were made in the first quarter of the year, adding to 1100 from all of 2012.
The City assists with the disconnection of downspouts to “to help keep rain water away from foundations and thereby reduce the number of flooded basements”.
The program provides citizens with a free appointment where an inspector will come and discuss work that will take place to disconnect residential downspouts.
“It will take time, but this program will make a difference”, said Mark Winterton, Manager of Contracts and Field Services. “Basement flooding often isn’t a one-issue problem, but taking steps to get water away from foundations definitely helps.”
