Tuesday evening, the Greater Essex County District School Board Trustees awarded construction on a new west end school to Wincon Construction.

Construction is expected to get underway in early spring on the school that will house students from Benson and Dr. H.D Taylor into one building. The new school will be built on existing land on the Taylor school property facing Campbell Avenue.

The new school building has been designed by Glos Assoicates as will feature 54,190 square feet of learning space on two floors with space for 529 students. The property will also have a bus bay, kiss n’ ride area and 79 parking spaces.

Once complete, the old Taylor school will then be demolished around May or June 2014.  There’s no word exactly what will happen with the old Benson building.
