Drouillard Park in Ford City is being renamed to honour a resident who passed way last summer.
Gary Dougal called the Drouillard Road community home for his entire life. He was raised in the area, and chose to raise his family of four in the very same neighborhood. Mr. Dougal served on the Ford City Residents in Action committee, and devoted much of his time organizing toy and food drives for those in need. He was also instrumental in restoring the Ford City fireworks that are held every Victoria Day weekend.
Mr. Dougal also adopted Drouillard Road Park where he visited each morning with his dog. It was not uncommon for him to be seen picking up the trash and attending to other needs in the park.
It would be that park that Mr. Dougal would visit for the last time before passing away in it on August 9th.
City Council will be asked next Monday to formally approve the name change to “Gary Dougal Park”.
