The Windsor Express rolled to the WFCU Centre this afternoon, and just kept rolling. The team went 9/22 with 3-pointers, and netted 24 of 28 free throws. Individually, Mike Helms had 20 points, Anthony Johnson had 16, and Greg Surmacz had 15 as Windsor defeated Summerside 97-93 at the WFCU Centre this afternoon.

Windsor handed Summerside only their second loss of the season – a second straight loss. Last night, the Summerside Storm lost their first of the season to the Oshawa Power. Today, they played their third game in three nights: a rematch against the Express.

Following a rough start – a 9-2 run for the Storm – the Express got back on track. Slowly but surely, they clawed their way back into the game, and eventually took the lead. Big plays from both the offense and defense kept the team up 54-46 at the half. Windsor had a marginal 15-point lead in the 2nd quarter, but the Storm reduced it to 8.

In the 3rd quarter, Mike Helms commanded the court, driving home some three-pointers throws and foul shots.

The Storm caught up in the 4th, and momentarily took the lead. However, missed baskets and a few fouls (sending Windsor players to the line) allowed the Express to fight for the lead.

With 9 seconds remaining, and Windsor up by one, captain Anthony Johnson sank a big three that sent the Express Nation and the bench in an uproar. The Storm couldn’t score in the dying seconds as Windsor held on for the victory.

The Express play five consecutive games out-of-town, and are not back home until December 14th when they face the Moncton Miracles.
