Windsor Fire and Rescue Services is set to purchase four brand new fire trucks to replace current models far beyond their safe life expectancy.

The four new trucks, two with 70′ ladders and two with 95′ ladders, will replace four current trucks as old as 17 years of age.

The fire department says that due to the large volume of calls they respond to, any vehicles over 15 years of age cause Windsor’s vehicles to fall behind national standards.

Fort Garry Fire Trucks was the winning bidder in a tender put out by the City of Windsor in the summer. Windsor’s new fire trucks will cost a total of $4,278,661.

The existing, out-of-date vehicles will be sold to smaller departments with lower volumes of calls.
