Investors Group is planning a family hockey event to take place in Downtown Windsor between Christmas time and New Years. The Windsor Classic is proposed to take place on the weekend of December 28th and 29th on Riverside Drive West between Ouellette Avenue and Ferry Street.

The two day street hockey game will be centered around the rivalry between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs, with each registered team choosing to represent one of the two teams. There will be three simultaneous 45 minute games every hour over the course of the two days, with games organized by age group, with one cumulative score for all games.

Also featured will be family-orientated displays, games, performances and guest appearances by hockey figures. A can drive, bottle drive and used hockey equipment drive will also take place. Should bad weather prevent this from taking place, there are plans to hold it at the St. Denis Centre at the University of Windsor.

The request to run the event and close the road goes before Windsor City Council, Monday night.
