The Dave and Chuck “The Freak” branding from their Facebook Page

Insanely popular Windsor/Detroit radio morning show hosts Dave and Chuck “The Freak” have quit their gig at 89X and their future is uncertain at this time.

In a posting on their Facebook page this morning at 7:07am, the two hosts behind the show which often combined wild expressions of the word “PENIS”, prank calls and other morning-commute antics, said that:

Unfortunately we can’t go into detail, but as of today the Dave and Chuck “The Freak” show is no longer a part of the 89X line up. We greatly enjoyed our time at 89X for over a decade, made some great friends, and are so thankful we got to be a part of your lives every morning. We have the best listeners in the world, and you guys entertained us as much as we entertained you.

Hosts Dave Hunter and Charles Urquhart regularly ran the hit show — with a Facebook fan base of 80,000 alone — weekday mornings from 5:30am to 10am on Canadian-owned 88.7 FM, or 89X, a Bell Media radio station. The show gained an even larger audience in the Metro Detroit area.

In a very short time, an online petition has sprung up to get the hosts back, with a goal of 1000 signatures:

And fans have started a “Boycott 89X” Facebook page as a “page for you to voice your displeasure with 89x for letting them go”. Find that here:

There’s no word yet on why the pair left their gig at 89X, and what the popular comic duo’s plans are for the future, but the station itself has confirmed that they “have quit”. windsoriteDOTca has reached out to Hunter and Urquhart for comment.
