Monday evening, the Greater Essex Country District School Board voted to accept the recommendation from the Director of Education Warren Kennedy to close Forster Secondary School in Windsor’s west end at the end of the school year in June 2014.
Those students will be transferred to near by Century Secondary School in September 2014. The Forster building would then be declared surplus to the boards needs.
A community effort had taken place to rally to save the a school including a meeting that took place on November 8th in Sandwich Town. Many of those people spoke at tonight’s meeting asking the board to defer the closure decision to give them time to look for partnerships in the community to save the school.
Forster just celebrated its 90th anniversary this past June.
