Wind Mobile is coming to a new plaza on Walker Road.
The fairly new Canadian mobile phone provider which launched service to major Canadian municipalities in 2009 is building their second Windsor retail location in the 3800 block of Walker Road.
The company is also building four cell towers locally and will be opening a location at Devonshire Mall.
Construction has started at the corner of Tecumseh and Crawford on what will be the first of four new local cellphone towers serving customers of Wind Mobile.
The company, which also runs popular long-distance provider Yak, paid $442-million in 2008 for a portion of the Canadian wireless spectrum and recently hit 500,000 subscribers.
Windsor’s new cell towers will allow for Wind Mobile to have full coverage in the area as part of a network expansion plan announced back on May 26th of this year.
In addition to the Tecumseh and Crawford location, three other towers will be located at: 2619 Country Road 42 (749.2 sq.m on the Predawn Nursery site), 4850 North Service Road East (777.2 sq.m near North Service and Pillette) and 3850 Dougall Avenue (291 sq.m behind the plaza at Dougall and Cabana).
