The OPP say that earlier reports of a male with a gun in the Heinz bush in Leamington appears to have been ” inadvertently fabricated by a group of imaginative students.”
Police say that they originally received information from school officials that a nine year old student had seen a male Thursday in the Heinz bush, which is adjacent to the school grounds. The child claims that the male approached him from across the fence and showed him what appeared to be a gun.
The OPP K-9 unit, along with the Emergency Response Team attended the area and searched and were unable to locate that male or any type of weapon.
During the search, students from both St. Michel and Queen Elizabeth Schools were advised to remain indoors. OPP stress that he students were not in danger. The investigation is continuing.
Police say that while the male was seen in the Heinz bush by several students, at no time did he ever exchange any words with any of the students, nor was he watching them, talking to them or ever a threat to anyone. It was also determined that there was no gun involved in this incident.
