Windsor firefighters responded for multiple reports of heavy smoke billowing from the AJ Brian Pumping Station, part of a complex of buildings that make up one of the City’s water treatment plants on Wyandotte Street East, shortly after 5pm today.
Heavy smoke could be seen in the area and traffic on Wyandotte became slowed due to limited visibility. Firefighters arrived and heavy oil-smelling smoke was pouring from stacks on the roof of the building. Firefighters cut the locks off of a bay door at the plant and discovered that the smoke was not being caused by a fire but rather by a generator that was running poorly.
The generator was shut down and the smoke stopped.
