Portions of the exterior are complete at Windsor’s new jail — the $38-million dollar Southwest Detention Centre.
The new structure, being constructed by Bondfield Construction, is on schedule for opening next July.
The South West Detention Centre will adhere to the guidelines and sustainability principles of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system such as a focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources, with a goal of achieving LEED “Silver” certification.
Construction of the new 315-bed facility will ensure that the area has a new facility ready to help meet current and future capacity needs and to resolve issues regarding overcrowding at the aging Sandwich Jail.
