UPDATED: Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Closed After Bomb Threat

UPDATE 4:25pm: The tunnel has been inspected by Police and will re-open at 5pm.

The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel is closed after a bomb threat.

The Windsor Police tactical squad is on scene and officials have blocked the entrance to the tunnel.

Tunnel officials on the Canadian side received an anonymous call reporting a bomb in the tunnel around 1pm and the tunnel was evacuated.

Customs workers have left their posts and are catching some shade near the Ontario Travel building.

Windsor Police and Detroit Police along with the Windsor Police Forensics branch are currently inspecting the tunnel as of 3:50pm.

Customs workers stand safely across the street from the tunnel this afternoon

The Detroit River in the area above the tunnel has also been shut down to boats including commercial shipping traffic.
