Detroit Police are about halfway done sweeping the Ambassador Bridge after a bomb threat was phoned in to the busiest border crossing in North America this evening.
(See photos of the incident from the Canadian side)
A helicopter along with police vehicles are checking every part of the bridge for a possible bomb.
Truck traffic is backed up past Pulford Street and Huron Church and Windsor Police have been posted to intersections to prevent trucks from blocking them.
There are no restrictions for travelling under the Bridge at this time. Riverside Drive, University Avenue, Peter Street, Donnelly Street and Wyandotte Street West are all open to traffic and pedestrians under the Bridge and there is no visible Police presence.
Police say there is no confirmed time as to when the Bridge will open but it is expected that it will not reopen until the middle of the night.
