Where can you go in Windsor to find “just the right gift”? A new store in Walkerville hopes to be that place!

Poppy, which opens today in time for the 10th Annual Walkerville Art Walk & Rock, is a stationery store where you can find a large selection of greeting cards and note paper to send well wishes and salutations to friends and loved ones.

The store is owned by Lindsay Gammon, proprietor of Bump Maternity and Baby, who says she got the idea while living in the Walkerville-like Glebe neighbourhood of Ottawa, from a store she frequented called The Paperie. Gammon says “I like to think of people opening their mailbox and finding something other than a bill, and bringing a smile to their face”.

Poppy will carry a wide selection of greeting cards, boxed notes, invitations and letterpress cards in a variety of subject matters for different occasions. Many of the products are produced by small US and Canadian companies printing with “soy-based inks, using wind and solar generated power on recycled papers”, Gammon says.

The store will also sell photo albums, guest books, wrapping paper, bulk stationary and Gammon hopes to expand into printed invitations in early 2013. On the gift side of things, Poppy will stock and sell unique gifts for women, men and children including things like woodwick candles, iPad and laptop cases, handmade pillows and aprons, magic sets, books and more.

Poppy – paperie & gifts opens today and is located at 1823 Wyandotte Street East. Visit Poppy’s Facebook Page here.
