Construction of the W-E Parkway is in high gear and upon completion, much local traffic will encircle the region’s largest roundabout.
The area in the photo above, as seen above from the existing Highway 3 / Highway 401 Bridge, will be comprised of a two-lane roundabout with connections to Highway 3, the Parkway, the Laurier Parkway, the 401 and the Parkway’s Service Road.
Many of the bridges that lead to and from the new roundabout were among the first pieces of the entire Parkway project to be constructed in 2011. A redesign of the roundabout last year was brought on by safety concerns and the new design includes changes that will enhance pavement markings, signage and shoulder details.
Construction crews are presently working on excavating for the W-E Parkway between the 401 and Howard in the area shown above.
The roundabout is expected to be constructed within the next year and Highway 3 traffic will permanently shift onto it.
