Just in time for cottage and storm season, Hydro One, the power company which serves much of rural Ontario and most of Essex County outside of major municipalities, has released a smartphone app to help you find out what’s going on during a power outage.
The new app was built upon Hydro One’s Storm Centre website and shows a map of Ontario displaying planned and unplanned power outages. With the app you can find out why the power went out, if a crew has been dispatched to fix it, how many homes are without power, a geographic visualization of the area without power, and the estimated time before the problem is fixed and the power is back on. Outage data is updated every 15 minutes from the Ontario Grid Control Centre.
