North Talbot overpass nearing completion
The 401 was closed for a 24 hour period, starting on Saturday April 28th at 1am (Eastbound 401 between Highway 3 and Provincial and Westbound 401 between Manning and Highway 3) to allow for a rebuild of the expanded North Talbot overpass.
By Saturday the heavy lifting was complete… the new girders and deck panels are already in place and the rebar and cement work continues. The 401 opened six hours ahead of schedule Saturday evening.
The previous overpass was removed last September 22nd with a similar 24 hour closure.
The abutments along the expansion of the 401 needed to be wide enough to accommodate 6 lanes, but North Talbot Road was a snug fit with just the current 4 lanes. It had to go.
