It’s Heritage Week in Ontario, and in recognition of seven days dedicated to history, the Windsor Heritage Committee is presenting four local property owners with “Built Heritage Awards” at City Council this evening.
The award is given in recognition of the property owners’ continued stewardship of some of Windsors most interesting heritage buildings.
The Yorktown Square Sign at 1341 Grand Marais Road West has been a south Windsor landmark since 1954. It was recently refreshed over the past summer. The neon sign holds the unique status of being the only sign on the city’s heritage register.
It was constructed when the shopping plaza had first reopened, and had not seen any upgrades until 2011 when the neon sign structure and all its elements were carefully restored.
