The Windsor Light Music Theatre will be holding a very different casting call this weekend.

They are looking for friendly, well-behaved chihuahuas to audition for the top dog role of “Bruiser” in their upcoming production of Legally Blonde, opening this May at the Chrysler Theatre.

The auditions take place at 1pm on Saturday at the Windsor Light Rehearsal Studio, located at 2491 Jos St. Louis.

Interested dog owners or handlers are asked to call ahead at 519-974-6593, in order to register their dog for the audition.

This musical production of Legally Blonde is based on the popular 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle.

Bruiser is Elle’s pet Chihuahua, and plays a reasonably large role in the show, appearing in many scenes with Elle’s character.

Danielle Wade of Windsor will play the role as Elle, and will attend the dog auditions in order for the show’s director to determine how comfortably each canine candidate interacts with her.

Director David Burrows states; “In Legally Blonde, Elle Woods makes the comment that Bruiser isn’t just a pet, he’s family, and refers to him as Bruiser Woods. With that in mind, we knew we couldn’t just choose any dog. Bruiser is as much a part of the cast as any of our other actors, so it was important for us to hold auditions to find just the right chihuahua to fill those shoes” Burrows adds “Audiences familiar with the movie will recognize Bruiser as a small chihuahua with an excellent sense of fashion. He is well-mannered, well-behaved and responds on cue. In particular, he needs to bark on visual command, and be comfortable with being carried in a small case”.

The show will be the very first production of Legally Blonde the Musical to appear in the Windsor/Detroit area will run the first and second weekend in May.
