Cirque du Soleil’s Quidam tour kicked off a series of eight shows at the WFCU Centre on Wednesday night. The internationally renowned performance was met with a full crowd at the city’s east end arena.

The performance’s plot centre’s around Zoé, a bored young girl whose parents are distant and apathetic. Her life has lost all meaning, and Zoé seeks to fill the void of her existence by sliding into an imaginary world—the world of Quidam — where she meets characters who encourage her to free her soul.

Quidam is described as a “nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past and swallowed by the crowd”. Quidam is “anybody”: someone anonymous, a member of the crowd, one of the silent majority, the one who cries out and sings and dreams. In Zoé’s world, a place that beckons for dreaming and genuine relations is a place “where all quidams, by proclaiming their individuality, can finally emerge from anonymity”.

Cirque du Soleil Quidam has 7 more performances:

Thursday January 12th – 7:30pm
Friday January 13th – 3:30pm & 7:30pm
Saturday January 14th – 3:30pm & 7:30pm
Sunday January 15th – 1pm & 5pm
