After last weekend’s Amherstburg and Kingsville parades, Mr. and Mrs. Claus are back in Essex county.

Spreading the holiday cheer on Friday evening, North Pole’s biggest celebrities made an appearance in Tecumseh. The Brad & Angelina of the season took part in a Christmas parade, helped light-up town hall from their sleigh and visited children at Tecumseh arena.

The couple, with decades of staying power, had adults and children alike buzzing in excitement. They also got many thinking a bit harder about December 25.

“I can’t wait to see Santa,” said six-year-old Bella Lesperance. “And I’m really looking forward to spending time with my family at Christmas.”

Also excited to see the big guy, her five-year-old sister Lilly added, “my favourite part of Christmas is that it’s God’s birthday.”

Jolly St. Nick, his wife and their reindeer capped off the parade, which featured several floats including ones from AM800, Border City Barkers and Allan candy company – the latter throwing out candy canes for all to enjoy. Performances during the parade included singing by the Holy Names choir, Christmas songs from different marching bands and an appearance by The Stilt Guys. Mayor Gary McNamara, MPP Dwight Duncan, Miss Tecumseh 2011 Randi-Lyn Miller, and Miss Universe Canada 2011 Chelsae Durocher were also on hand for the event.

Many volunteers helped make a difference as well. Residents could support Tecumseh Goodfellows and Society of St. Vincent de Paul, either by donating non-perishable food items or new/gently used mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to those collecting along the parade route and at Tecumseh arena.

Mr. & Mrs. Claus will continue their 2011 Windsor-Essex County media tour at the 43rd Annual Windsor parade, before making their final stop in Essex next Saturday. Tonight’s festivities kick-off at 6pm at Atkinson park. From there the parade will go down Riverside Drive, through Old Sandwhich Town on Sandwhich Street and finish at Brock Street. The event usually draws 50,000 people to the city.
