On October 23rd, The Manchester Pub located at 546 Ouellette Avenue will become the official hub for the Windsor-Essex chapter of the Manchester United Supporters Club of Canada, with an inauguration party that includes breakfast, the 8:30 Manchester derby featuring a match between cross-town rivals Manchester United and Manchester City, followed by a BBQ in the early afternoon. Members of the head branch in Toronto will be sending a bus load of close to 100 members from Toronto, London and Cambridge to meet new members from Windsor-Essex.

Manchester United is the most popular English Premier League (and some would say European) football club in the world, who just last season set a Premier League record with it’s 19th Premier League title. Like such iconic teams as the New York Yankees, the LA Lakers, the Dallas Cowboys and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Manchester United is one of the world’s most recognizable sports brands.

Throughout the Manchester Pub’s first year of operation, many United fans were drawn to the Pub as their viewing destination, initially due to the name. But as many UK ex-pats began to roll in, an atmosphere was created that became increasingly infectious. A core group of 15-20 United fans now attend every telecast at the Pub, singing their football songs and chants, cheering on the Red Devils to victory. As each game builds in importance, so does the crowds. Over 220 United fans filled the Manchester Pub in May for the Champions League final versus Barcelona and continued singing and celebrating in the Pub and on the sidewalks, despite United’s loss to the Spanish side.

In order to become sanctioned, at least ten supporters had to become official One United members (One United is the official MU fan club through Old Trafford, where United plays) and the Windsor-Essex chapter secured twelve members via One United off the bat. This secured The Manchester Pub’s status with the Manchester United Supporters Club of Canada (which is sanctioned by Old Trafford and Manchester United) as the official Windsor-Essex Chapter of MUSCC for the beginning of the 2011-2012 season.

On Sunday October 23rd, The Manchester Pub welcomes delegates and members from MUSCC, including executives from the Toronto head branch as well as supporters from the Toronto and London branch, as well as members from the equally new chapter from Cambridge. Doors will open at 8am in the morning, with a limited breakfast menu from 8am until 12noon. At 8:30am, the crowd will be glued to the multiple televisions to watch the Manchester derby – featuring an English Premier match-up between the top two teams in the Premier League, Manchester United vs. Manchester City, live and with full sound. The MUSCC will be raffling off United prizes as well as running a 50/50 draw to help the MUSCC: Windsor-Essex chapter raise funds for the Club for future events. Directly following the game, the Pub will be throwing a BBQ on the patio, featuring their famous Manchester Burgers, sausage on a bun or grilled chicken. It will be a great event for Windsor-Essex fans of Manchester United to fraternize with fellow MU fans
