The Art Gallery of Windsor is located at 401 Riverside west, and makes the best aesthetic use of its position overlooking the Detroit River. The building’s design, with prow-like balconies, pays tribute to the tradition of Great Lakes shipping. Directly opposite the downtown Windsor Transit Terminal, the Gallery is easily accessable by bus.
The clean, crisp modern lines and spacious galleries create a tranquil environment for visitors exploring Canadian art past, and present. The future isn’t left out either, with the Gallery’ s weekly workshops in their on-site studio, and educational programs. The spacious galleries are also sought-after for reception rentals. Patrons can top off a trip to the Gallery with a meal at Taste Bud Bistro, the Gallery’s on-site restaurant. Members of the Gallery can purchase selected works of art from the Gallery as well.
Located on the ground floor is the Uncommon Market gift shop where you will find everything from fine ceramics, carvings, and clothing to jewlery, toys and games.
Exhibits at the Gallery are an ever-changing combination of works from the Gallery’s permanent collection of Canadian art, as well as works from contemporary artists, and special showings of travelling international exhibits.
The Art Gallery of Windsor is open Wednesday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, Thursday and Friday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Admission for the public is $5.00, free for members. Admission is free on Wednesdays.
