windsoriteDOTca presents a look at local candidates for Ontario’s 2011 Fall Provincial Election. Descriptions of candidates are provided by publicly available information and parties are presented alphabetically.

Andrew McAvoy lives in Windsor, Ontario with his wife Allison and their children Oliver and Abiageal.  He is a small business owner and entrepreneur.

As a community volunteer, organizer and activist, Andrew has championed stronger public services, including most recently leading a campaign to save community centres and pool facilities in Windsor.  He has been an outspoken advocate for strong public libraries services, and also helped lead a campaign to save Windsor’s central library.

His community involvement over the past two decades has included Chair of the Windsor Public Library Board and President of the Windsor Public Library Foundation, Co-Chair of the Rotary TV Auction, Chair of the Windsor EcoPark Development Committee, director at the Canada South Science City, a volunteer with the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society, a Member of Rotary Windsor-St. Clair, a Coach with Forest Glade Fastball League, various committees at the University of Windsor including a member of the Human Rights Panel and the Special Needs Advisory Council, the President’s Advisory Council, and over a dozen other community groups and projects.
