An annual Erie Street tradition is headed to Downtown Windsor this September.
The 53rd Annual Tour di Via Italia, Erie Street’s premiere summertime event, has been forced out of its usual Erie Street-Parent-Giles-Howard route this September 4th.
The Via Italia Business Improvement Area is currently undertaking a multimillion dollar road and sidewalk makeover that will feature extended patios, a coloured-concrete roadway and extensive greening.
In a report to City Council, organizers expect that “the races will resume on their original track in and around the Erie Street area” in 2012.
From the report:
The Start/Finish line is in the intersection at Ouellette Avenue and Chatham Street. Cyclists will proceed south to University Avenue, west on University Avenue West to Dougall Avenue, north on Dougall Avenue to Chatham Street West, east on Chatham Street West to Ferry Street, north on Ferry Street to Pitt Street West, east on Pitt Street West to Ouellette Avenue, then south on Ouellette Avenue to the finish line at Chatham Street.
The formal request to move the race to Downtown will go to City Council a week from Monday. The 53rd Annual Tour di Via Italia takes place on Sunday September 4th 2011.
