The City of Windsor is offering to host evacuees from Northern Ontario where wild fires are burning out of control.
Thousands of residents of First Nations communities are in need of safe shelter; many have found temporary lodging in closer communities like Thunder Bay, but the need for more communities to take part is growing.
Ottawa, Hamilton, Stratford, Sarnia and London are among those who have signed on to help so far.
Following their initial request to Windsor, Emergency Management Ontario is now being contacted to see how Windsor can help.
The city will release more details once Emergency Management Ontario responds.
