This week we continue where we left off last week. The following are photographs taken along lower Mill Street, Felix and Edison Avenues. The most noticeable area is that at the end of Mill Street, before the construction site, where an abandoned apartment building continues to deteriorate.
The area covered by these streets is one of the older parts of the city. As a result of this, it is more susceptible to neglect related problems, urban decay is one of them. Urban decay allows nature to encroach on the neighborhood. An example of this would be the rats that can be found within or around vacant properties. Over grown gardens allow the same sheltered conditions to develop. No matter what the problems are; the residents suffer the results.
The photographs in this series successfully illustrate the conditions and process of urban decay.
We know the problem and it is up to everybody to address it however they can. It is not an easy task to fix a problem of this magnitude but constant vigilance and creative thinking are the ways towards a solution.
